The trap of moderate weight loss
Society celebrates a five-percent weight reduction, but for type 2 diabetes, that is often a drop in a very large bucket. Clinical data from the DiRECT trial suggests that a weight loss of 15 kilograms or more is the threshold for achieving remission in nearly 86% of participants. Small, incremental changes are comfortable. But comfort is rarely the fastest route to cellular repair. Because the body prioritizes survival, it will cling to visceral fat depots until pushed by a significant caloric deficit. This requires a radical metabolic pivot. And yes, it sounds harsh. But the alternative is a lifetime of progressive beta-cell exhaustion. We must stop pretending that "everything in moderation" applies to a system that has already lost its ability to regulate fuel.
